The Camarillo Airport is getting more than $300,000 from the Federal Aviation Administration thanks to the legwork of Congresswoman Julia Brownley (D-Westlake Village).
Brownley’s political deal-making has secured almost $1 million for Ventura County airports in the last two years.
The funds will go toward infrastructure improvements at the airport, including repaving a large portion of the west and central hangars.
“The Camarillo Airport is a vital economic driver in our region,” Brownley said in a release. “I am pleased to see the FAA continue to recognize this fact by providing much-needed funding for crucial infrastructure improvement projects at our local airports, which will help ensure the vitality of Ventura County’s diverse economy.”
A new member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee on Aviation, Brownley is working closely with Ventura County officials to support the general aviation airports in Camarillo and Oxnard in the FAA reauthorization bill.
“The FAA grant funds are necessary to provide a safe and well-maintained airport facility for our flying public,” said Todd McNamee, Ventura County director of airports, in the release.
In 2013, Brownley fought and won to protect the staffed tower at Camarillo Airport and the contract tower at Oxnard Airport from closure due to sequestration cuts. In 2014, Brownley announced more than $600,000 in federal funding for apron pavement rehabilitation at both airports.
