Harbor Freight battle is a father-son feud for the ages

During the past 15 years, a tool and hardware distributor in Camarillo called Central Purchasing exploded into one of the largest private companies in the Tri-Counties as it exploited new sales channels online, in broadcast media and at 300 retail stores.

Muscle car supplier could have region’s biggest lease this year

In what may be the largest lease deal in the Tri-Counties to date this year, Dynacorn International leased 98,952 square feet of industrial space at 4030 Via Pescador in Camarillo. The seven-year lease is valued at more than $3.8 million, according to NAI Capital’s Ventura County office, which represented the lessee.

Downtown decision - Meetings slated on proposed improvement district Print E-mail
Friday, 08 August 2008

Ventura city and downtown business leaders again are trying to form an improvement district to keep improving the economy by fixing streets and sidewalks and providing more security.

The Downtown Ventura Organization, or DVO, is planning to hold a series of town hall-style meetings beginning Aug. 12 to discuss formation of the district.

“The momentum downtown is incredibly robust – even in the midst of a nationwide economic slowdown and a very disruptive local infrastructure reconstruction project,” said DVO Executive Director Rob Edwards.

“Despite both these obstacles to progress, downtown Ventura retailers and restaurateurs continue to yield returns on the city’s investment.

Downtown sales tax revenues actually increased over the past year by 1 percent. That is very modest growth, but it bucks a trend.”

An assessment district makes sense for Downtown Ventura. In the twelve plus years I have been in Ventura, several attempts have been made to establish a district. Dedicated volunteers have done a great job over the years but I believe now is the right time. The Downtown Ventura Organization has made significant progress by hiring an executivie director who has a lot of experience in making things happen. Good things are already happening. Financial sustainability is key to success. The PBID process is the way to go to make sure that there is sufficient funding to improve and increase services for everyone downtown. Everyone benefits.
