News-Press settles suit
A copyright infringement lawsuit was settled April 28 between the owners of the Santa Barbara News-Press and the Santa Barbara Independent.
The News-Press suedthe Independent on Nov. 9, 2006, when the daily newspaper said the weekly violated the law by postinga story written by then-News-Press reporter Scott Hadley about the resignationof former editor Jerry Roberts.
Last week, the News-Pressfired 10 employees, including sports editor Barry Punzel, in what was describedas reorganization prompted by declining circulation and a drop in advertisingrevenues.
