Reagan center gets $5.2M

IN THIS ARTICLE

The Reagan Library in Simi Valley received a $5.2 million donation for its Air Force One Interactive Discovery Center during opening ceremonies June 8, attended by former first lady Nancy Reagan and U.S. Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings.

The grant, from the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation, is to enhance the program’s technology and help school districts off-set travel expenses to the center. It will enable fifth- through eighth-grade students to get hands-on experience in learning how government works and presidential decision making and other skills.

The Reynolds Foundation contributed $3.5 million in 2007 to help build the center. Three hundred and eighty-one students participated in the role-playing exercises during the opening week, June 9 through 13. They were from Oxnard, Camarillo and four other cities.
