Time is right for Sierra Madre and Riverbench winemakers
With wine powerhouses Paso Robles to the north, Santa Barbara to the south and Santa Ynez to the east, Santa Maria’s role along the Central Coast remains primarily in agriculture.
But two large grape growers, who have sold their fruits to area wineries for decades, decided they want a slice of the action.
Fortunately for wine newcomers Sierra Madre Vineyard and Riverbench Winery, they picked the right time to enter the winemaking scene – the Santa Maria Valley Wine Country Association has begun seriously marketing the region.
