Highway work under way

IN THIS ARTICLE

Work is under way in San Luis Obispo County on Highway 46 East as Caltrans crews install safety barriers for the highway’s widening project.

The work is part of a $30 million project to widen five miles of Highway 46 from two lanes to four lanes from Airport Road to Geneseo Road. Construction is to be finished at the end of 2010.

On June 23, Caltrans started a project that will repave and add safety rumble strips to Highway 46 East in Shandon from the Cholame Creek Bridge to just east of Lucy Brown Road.

Motorists may be delayed up to 15 minutes during the work, which is scheduled to take place from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on weekdays. The $609,000 project is expected to be finished in August.
