Moorpark police are cautioning campers to beware of scammers who charge up to $1,000 to smear grease all over vehicles, the Ventura County Star reported.

The scammers offer to put a new gel coat on trailers and other fiberglass vehicles, the Star reported. The scammers apply a gel and tell the victim to not touch it for at least 15 hours while it dries, the paper said.
But the “gel” is often common automotive grease, and victims find they have paid $1,000 for a grease smearing. Police said scammers appear to be targeting Rincon Beach and other areas, the Star reported.
