Sales are taking off at Hi-Temp Insulation.
The Camarillo company makes heat shielding and soundproofing for the aircraft and spacecraft industries. Its products protect against fires in the engines of Boeing 777s, wrap U.S. missiles in blankets to keep them warm in Alaskan silos and prevent the space shuttle’s wings from burning up when it re-enters the atmosphere.
But demand for big-ticket items such as jets has slowed. The U.S. space industry is largely on hold, awaiting President Obama’s decision on NASA funding. Yet Hi-Temp has found lines of business to fill the gaps, brining $55 million in revenue last year and expecting to clock $60 million this year.
