The new Isla Vista
Isla Vista, the run-down student community neighboring the University of California, Santa Barbara, is in the midst of a long-awaited facelift and now the first private development project under that revitalization effort is gearing up to break ground.
Santa Barbara’s Mesa Lane Partners, a development firm that focuses on green and sustainable projects, plans to begin building this year on an ambitious, 31,500-square-foot project in the heart of Isla Vista’s downtown. The Loop, as the project is called, is slated to be the first completely privately funded, mixed-use project to open under the unincorporated city’s new master plan.
The four-story building on El Embarcadero and Trigo roads will feature 45 residential units on top of 4,600-square-feet of street-level commercial space.
