Camarillo-based Salem Communications, a conservative and Christian radio broadcaster, increased profits 195 percent to $5.6 million in 2011, the company said March 8.

Salem owns or operates 95 radio stations in the U.S., more than half of which are in the nation’s top 25 radio markets. It also publishes print titles such as Preacher Magazine and owns web properties such as Christianity.com.

The Camarillo company said sales rose 5.7 percent to $218.2 million in 2011 from $206.5 million in 2010.

Salem’s shares trade on the Nasdaq, but CEO Edward G. Atsinger III and Chairman Stuart Epperson and his wife Nancy collectively control 87 percent of the company’s common stock.
