For Guadalupe, it’s not the city’s expenses that are the problem — it’s revenue. With little commercial presence from businesses and a population of about 7,100, business tax revenues have dwindled and the ability to attract retailers is almost nonexistent.
Vendors at farmers markets all over the state will now pay a higher daily fee — $2 instead of the current 60 cents — and growers will face stricter inspections as part of a new state law going into effect Jan. 1, 2015.
