The late Julia Child is getting some overdue love from her adopted hometown of Santa Barbara.
City officials designated Aug. 15, her birthday, as Julia Child Day to go along with celebrations across the nation. She would be 107 if still alive.
Along with the festivities came an announcement of the Julia Child Foundation for Gastronomy and the Culinary Arts’ launch of the Santa Barbara Culinary Experience, an event featuring local farms, chefs and restaurants scheduled for March 13-15, 2020.
Child was a longtime resident of the area and notably the Casa Dorinda retirement community. She put a number of places on the restaurant map, notably The Spot in Carpinteria and La Super-Rica on Milpas Street in Santa Barbara.
