Dignity Health orthopedic surgeon Dr. Jonathon Fow is heading to Japan later this month as a Team USA physician at the Tokyo 2021 Olympic Games, which begin July 23. Fow is a sports medicine orthopedic surgeon, and practices in San Luis Obispo County at Arroyo Grande Specialty Center.

Fow has a long history with the Olympics, Dignity Health said in a July 8 news release. He worked as Team Physician for USA beach volleyball at the 2012 London Olympic Games and for Paralympic athletes at the 2019 Parapan American Games in Lima, Peru. Fow was head team physician at the ANOC 2019 World Beach Games in Doha, Qatar, and has worked at the Olympic Training Center.

He has also helped provide sports medicine coverage for events including USA Women’s Water Polo, USA Cricket, USA Modern Pentathlon and USA Wrestling. On a local scale, the doctor is also the team physician for Nipomo High School and Morro Bay High Schools.

“I am truly honored and humbled to have been selected as a sports medicine physician for Team USA,” Fow said in Dignity Health’s news release. “Being a physician for Team USA in Tokyo will be a major milestone in my sports medicine career.”
