Figueroa Mountain Brewing Co. took two gold and two silver medals home to Buellton from the 2021 Great American Beer Festival awards on Sept. 10, one of five medal-winning breweries from the tri-county region.
The public festival portion of the Great American Beer Festival was cancelled for the second straight year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but the awards were held on schedule in Denver, as part of the Craft Brewers Conference. Winners were chosen in 175 categories, out of 9,680 entries by 2,192 brewers, according to a news release from the Brewers Association, an industry group that puts on the Great American Beer Festival.
Figueroa Mountain’s gold medals were for its American amber lager, Meat Sweats, and its American-style brown ale, Davy Brown Ale. It won silver for its German dark later, Schwarz is the New Black, and its Vienna-style lager, Danish Red Lager.
Wild Fields Brewhouse in Atascadero won gold in the English-style brown ale category for its Pine Mountain Monolith, and Third Window Brewing in Santa Barbara won gold for best international dark lager, with its beer The Dark.
Bronze medals went to Liquid Gravity Brewing Co. in San Luis Obispo for its Australian-style Pale Ale, Mo’ Diggity, and to Paso Robles-based Firestone Walker Brewing Co., in the category of sweet or cream stout, for its Nitro Merlin Milk Stout.
