Letter to the Editor: Tribute to Howie Wennes was spot-on
Dear Editor,
I just wanted to thank you for your kind words in the Pacific Coast Business Times about my dear friend, Howie Wennes (July 22, “Howie Wennes stepped up when CLU and the region needed him”). Your perspective was spot-on; particularly Howie’s fondness for a good joke. That man was blessed with a wicked laugh, in addition to numerous other gifts, so his sense of humor was often shared by those in close proximity. Yet, Howie always put a smile on everyone’s face.
As a member of California Lutheran University Board of Regents during our “double transition” of the presidency, I can attest that Howie’s enormous contribution to leadership stability cannot be understated. We thrived under his steady leadership. Supporters like me became more embedded in the university’s fabric as we witnessed a former church bishop tackle the challenges of higher education with aplomb. And of course, his legendary humor.
With fond memories and loving respect for Howie,
— Rod Gilbert
