Our 2023 Hall of Fame and Legacy special report celebrates the incredible career of Janet Garufis, the chairman and CEO of Montecito Bank & Trust, the biggest locally-based bank in the region. Garufis, who has been in the banking industry for more than 50 years, started out as a teller and rose through the ranks. Garufis opened doors for herself and the people who came after her, and did so while giving back to the community. In 2014, Garufis joined the Community Depository Institutions Advisory Council of the Federal Reserve Bank’s 12th District, and has served as a trustee or board member for dozens of local nonprofits.
This special report also includes profiles of five organizations that are celebrating big moments. Bartlett Pringle & Wolf, a regional CPA firm, is turning 75, as is Direct Relief, an international aid organization. The County of Ventura is celebrating its 150th anniversary, and Gold Coast Transit District is turning 50. Up in the northern end of our region, The Community Foundation of San Luis Obispo County is celebrating 25 years of operations!
We’ll also be honoring a few other important organizations with important anniversaries, like AMB Law, CanCal Health, the Lobero Theatre and Ojai Valley Inn.
