A $250,000 sponsorship from life sciences company Takeda has made possible a new Moorpark College biotech analytical lab, which will be unveiled at a July 19 ribbon-cutting.

The lab is located within the college’s main biotech lab, the school announced in a July 2 press release.

It will be geared for students enrolled in the college’s first bachelor’s degree program for applied biomanufacturing.

The B.S. program debuts in the fall semester, which begins Aug. 12.

The new lab will allow students to gain analytical and technical skills needed to thrive in the life sciences industry through hands-on experiences, according to the release.

Stephen Hatke, Takeda’s vice president of manufacturing and its Thousand Oaks site head, said in the release that the company’s “ongoing partnership with Moorpark College exemplifies Takeda’s commitment to STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) education and the next generation of innovators who will drive progress and shape the future.“

Takeda is headquartered in Tokyo, Japan.

Moorpark College President Julius Sokenu said the partnership “perfectly aligns with our mission and increases the likelihood of Moorpark College becoming a destination college locally, nationally, and globally.”
