Suit dismissed accusing Edison of starting Mountain Fire
A class action lawsuit alleging that Southern California Edison’s equipment sparked the recent Mountain Fire in Ventura County has been dismissed, according to the utility and the law firm which filed it.
“We have confirmed that this complaint has been dismissed,” Edison said in a Nov. 19 letter to the California Public Utilities Commission.
The utility had denied the allegations.
Attorney Brett Yorke with the Ventura law firm Ball & Yorke, which filed the Nov. 8 suit in Ventura County Superior Court, confirmed that it had been dismissed, but provided no further details to the Business Times.
The suit, alleging negligence and inverse condemnation, was filed by homeowners Pamela and Kenneth McWaid and sought general damages and more.
The fire broke out Nov. 6 in the unincorporated Somis destroying 243 structures, including 182 homes, many of them in Camarillo.
The blaze is now 98% contained.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
