Teledyne completes $710M purchase from Excelitas

Thousand Oaks-based Teledyne Technologies completed its $710 million acquisition of several businesses from Excelitas Technologies Corp on Feb. 3.
Teledyne’s, the technology and defense conglomerate, $710 million acquisition included aerospace and defense electronics businesses.
Qioptiq, a UK-based optical systems business under Excelitas, was amongst the businesses obtained in the deal, bringing Teledyne new materials and technologies to advance the optics used in satellite applications, night vision systems, and helmet-mounted displays.
The business is now a part of Teledyne’s Aerospace and Defense Electronics segment under the new name, Teledyne Qioptiq.
“The combination of Teledyne Qiopyiq’s technologies and our existing broad portfolio of defense products will give us additional opportunities to deliver solutions to our customers,” said George Bobb, president and COO in a press release.
The acquisition of Excelitas was first announced around a month after Teledyne had completed its buyout of Micropac Industries in December for about $58 million.
Teledyne had been planning to acquire Excelitas in the first few months of 2025, but had not closed in on the deal yet when Micropac was adopted.
The acquisition of both companies is part of Teledyne’s plan to up their Aerospace and Defense Electronics segment.
“We are pleased to have expeditiously closed this acquisition, which represents our tenth corporate carve-out transaction,” said Robert Mehrabian, executive chairman, in a press release.
The rapid acquisition of new businesses will inspire to drive up Teledyne’s resources and electronics to improve their operations internally and for their customers.
