Quintron device plays role
Santa Maria-based Quintron Systems officials announced that the recently installed DICES Voice-over-IP mission voice switch played a key role in providing emergency communications support for the International Space Station flight operations control center in response to Hurricane Ike.
As the hurricane approached the Texas coast, the Johnson Space Center was evacuated at noon on Sept. 11.
Operating on a backup plan, the NASA communications team activated remote user access from alternate work locations for the ISS Flight Team to the Quintron DICES VoIP system, Quintron officials said in a news release.
