Editorial: Pre-school as economic development
A Jan. 16 program hosted by the Economic Development Collaborative of Ventura County raised an intriguing question. If pre-school works so well, why not make it accessible to every kid in the county?
Business leaders including Kinko’s founder Paul Orfalea, Patagonia General Counsel Hilary Dessouky, Corwin President Mike Soules and Amgen executive Janet Van Alsten left no doubt that pre-school works. And the county has ample resources, including Fillmore daycare expert Alma Ferrel.
So, why not pool resources and get some form of pre-school to every kid in the county? That’s an investment that will pay off with better outcomes, lower crime rates, higher literacy rates and an improved quality of life for thousands of our region’s residents.
