Chambers warn businesses to be skeptical of map ads
Business owners may be looking for a fresh start for the New Year, but chamber of commerce members might want to think twice before signing up for special advertising promotions.
President and Chief Executive Officer Joanne Main said members of her chamber are being targeted by an Iowa-based company called Premier Map Co. And the chamber is not the only one: Iowa officials said Premier Map is under investigation following multiple complaints from across the country.
The company is contacting chamber members and asking them to advertise in the Atascadero City Map distributed by the chamber, Main said, adding that the company is approaching members as if it’s acting on behalf of the chamber. The company has used both phone and fax lines to contact chamber members.
