Jim Glines sure knows how to seal a deal.
The fifth-generation Santa Marian developed his knack for dealmaking during his early years on a cattle ranch near Cuyama.
Now, as president of the Community Bank of Santa Maria, he’s finding new ways to put his auctioneering skills to use, implementing country strategy into the community banking.
“I guess you could say I’ve been studying economics my whole life — and that’s 67 years,” Glines said. “It all started with auctions; they’re really the purest form of economics. No matter the perceived value, people just stop bidding at a certain point.”
