Donna von Hoesslin opens her car door and pulls out a magenta-colored surfboard with her company’s signature shellflower logo in blue. “I’m pretty stoked about this,” she says, tossing sun-bleached hair back over her tanned shoulders.

A passionate surfer, Von Hoesslin is the owner of Ventura-based Betty Belts, a company that makes and sells surf and ocean-inspired jewelry, handmade belts and other accessories — and now, custom Betty Belts surfboards made by local surfboard shaper Dennis Ryder.

Betty Belts sells wholesale to about 100 stores across the country and has seen revenue increase steadily year-over-year. Von Hoesslin said this year already looks better than 2009, when sales were up 25 percent over 2008 revenue.
