Museum without walls
While the actual building still is on the drawing boards, a lot is going on at the Discovery Center for Science and Technology, which is based in Westlake Village for now.
When completed, the 58,000-square-foot center will feature interactive exhibits, demonstrations, workshops, touring exhibitions, a training facility for teachers and a science park. Visitors will be able to experiment, explore and discover how the world works
Since 1996, the Museum Without Walls, a traveling educational concept, carried the Discovery Center’s programs and events from Ventura County to Santa Barbara and even into West Los Angeles County.
The Museum Without Walls offers educational opportunities through its programs, which include: Family Science Night; Reading Awakens Young Scientists; Science Theatre; Starlab; and the center’s teen program. These programs have reached more than 127,070 people.
The center’s programs try to inspire interest in science and technology for students of all ages. Program materials and activities conform with National Science Standards, Benchmarks for Science Literary and the California Science Standards.
