Andreea Serban has been named superintendent and president of the Santa
Barbara City College District. She will replace John Romo who is
retiring June 30.

Serban is the vice chancellor of technology and
learning services at the South Orange County Community College District
in Mission Viejo.

Before working in South Orange, she was the associate
vice president for information technology, research and planning at
Santa Barbara City College. The selection of Serban came after a
national search.

The Santa Barbara City College District Board of
Trustees was assisted by a search committee of representing faculty,
staff, students, the Foundation for SBCC and Santa Barbara community
leaders. Finalists participated in a March 12 campus-wide public forum
in addition to being interviewed by the board.

Site visits were
conducted by a team composed of the president of the board and the
leaders of the faculty and staff unions of the college.

This position
attracted Jack Friedlander, executive vice president at Santa Barbara
City College and Blaine Nisson, president of Umpqua Community College,
Roseburg, Ore.

Final action to appoint Serban will be taken in open
session at an upcoming board meeting when the board will act upon a
contract of employment for her.
