Morro Bay makes its BID

IN THIS ARTICLE

Morro Bay is set to start taxing visitors to the coastal town to help pay for promoting and marketing the city, The [San Luis Obispo] Tribune reported.

City leaders approved a Business Improvement District that will charge 3 percent of gross lodging sales per property the first year of the tax and 2 percent in subsequent years. It’s up to hotel owners whether to roll the tax into room rates.

City leaders told the Tribune they expect to raise $500,000 the first year and $300,000 each year afterward. The city will start collecting June 1.
