Zumbox goes coast-to-coast
Westlake Village-based Zumbox, the provider of a Web-based paperless mail platform, said Sept. 22 that it has rolled out its system in San Francisco and Newark, N.J.
Zumbox is a more secure version of electronic mail that works by verifying residents’ physical address by mailing them a pass code to turn on their inbox. The company closed an $8 million round of funding in August.
The company’s plan is to let consumers and governments use the system for everyday mailings for free while charging commercial customers who want to send direct-marketing mail.
Zumbox said Mayor Gavin Newsom of San Francisco sent an exclusive welcome letter, and Mayor Corey Booker of Newark distributed the city’s “Moving Newark Forward” newsletter via Zumbox to their respective cities. The company said it wants to reach 1 million customers and will roll out in more cities in the coming months.
