Chevron cleanup progress
Early in July, Chevron announced plans to clean up the remaining environmental problems at its former Tank Farm Road facility in San Luis Obispo. Tank Farm Road has emerged as a major economic development corridor for the city of San Luis Obispo and it has attracted millions of dollars in capital investment to an area that includes the city’s airport and some successful local businesses.
Cleaning up the Chevron property will only speed the development of this trade corridor. Once that is done we have another idea — how about a street name change? We’ll also give a nod to the Midwestern-based lender that took over Glen Annie Golf Course near Goleta and decided to keep it running.
You don’t have to be Paul Krugman to realize that a golf course with weeds growing on it and an abandoned restaurant are not going to be worth nearly as much as an accessible yet truly challenging public course on the South Coast.
In the long run, it’s worth it to keep Glen Annie open, whether or not a proposed 230-unit plan come to fruition.
