Region’s clinics get almost $60M in federal COVID funds
Several Central Coast health centers are getting nearly $60 million in total federal funds to help expand access to COVID-19 vaccines, testing and treatment because of the American Rescue Plan.
Of the six centers, Community Health Centers of the Central Coast, which is based in Nipomo, received the most money, with $18.7 million. Three organizations in Santa Barbara, American Indian Health & Services, Santa Barbara Neighborhood Clinics and the county of Santa Barbara, got $1.5 million, $4.9 million and $5.2 million, respectively. In Ventura County, Clinicas Del Camino Real got $13.4 million and the county of Ventura, $15.7 million.
“We cannot turn the corner on the COVID-19 pandemic until vaccines are widely distributed and accessible everywhere,” Sen. Alex Padilla said in a press release. “By providing nearly $1 billion to California Community Health Centers, we can get shots to our hardest hit and hardest to reach communities.”
