SBMA gets $1.1M gift from Schlosser family
The Santa Barbara Museum of Art said May 21 that it has received a $1.1 million gift pledge from the Schlosser Family Trust to fund the organization’s education programs.
The gift will be given over 10 years, the nonprofit museum said.
Nancy Schlosser, a member of the museum’s Legacy Society, established a Charitable Lead Trust that will make distributions on an annual basis, the museum said. The gift will be used primarily to fund the museum’s free family programming, including Studio Sundays on the Front Steps, family materials and activities in the Family Resource Center.
In a statement, Schlosser said the museum’s educational programs are “an invaluable resource.” She said she and her husband “were inspired by others who have been generous, and we hope this act will continue to encourage others to ensure the museum’s work of educational outreach and programming continues for generations to come.”
Schlosser and her late husband, Bill, have been members of the nonprofit at the Benefactors Circle level since 1961, the museum said, and they frequently participated in the museum’s travel program.
Museum Director Larry Feinberg said in a statement that Schlosser has been “the most dedicated and vocal champion of our education programs and their goals of building analytical- and creative-thinking skills, in addition to instilling knowledge of art and culture.”
Feinberg’s position was endowed as the Robert and Mercedes Eichholz Director with a $5.5 million gift from Eichholz Foundation earlier this year.
