Street smarts: Hyundai donates $20K to Greater Oxnard BGC
Hyundai Motor America and Alexander Hyundai of Oxnard recently donated a total of $20,000 to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Oxnard and Port Hueneme.
A check was presented to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Oxnard and Port Hueneme at the grand re-opening event of Alexander Hyundai of Oxnard on July 11.
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Oxnard and Port Hueneme help the youth reach their fullest potential through a positive environment, lifelong learning, and quality programs.
“The Alexander Family has been an incredible champion of young people in Oxnard and Port Hueneme,” Erin Antrim, CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Oxnard and Port Hueneme, said in a press release.
“Their years of investment, alongside the support of Hyundai Motor America, will help inspire and empower the next generation of engineers, designers, mechanics, and business leaders.”
With 21 locations across the Oxnard Plain, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Oxnard and Port Hueneme is one of the largest of its kind in California, serving over 1,000 youth every day and 3,500 youth annually.

SUCCESSFUL EVENT
The third Annual EPIC Golf Tournament, aimed at raising funds to support breast cancer awareness and education, was held on June 24. Hosted by EPIC Wealth Partners in Westlake Village, the total donation from the event came out to$17,830. The money will help provide education, advocacy, and emotional, and social support to those affected by breast cancer in the community.
NEW PRESIDENT
Dr. Roberto Gonzalez comes to Oxnard College after serving as the vice president of student services, enrollment management and equity initiatives at West Los Angeles College and a former dean at Santa Monica College. We wish him luck as he makes his way to the Central Coast!
FARM DAY
The sixth annual Santa Barbara County Farm Day is set for Aug. 24. Farm Day is a free event that allows the public to take behind-the-scenes tours of local farms and agricultural organizations, and participate in tractor/trailer rides, tastings, giveaways and kid-friendly activities. Participating locations are in Santa Maria, Santa Ynez Valley, Orcutt, Lompoc andGaviota. Last year, Santa Barbara County Farm Day attracted over 5,000 visitors.
ON THE BALLOT
On July 9 the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors voted to place a 2% Transient Occupancy Tax increase on the Nov. 5 General Election ballot. If authorized, the measure would update the County’s existing transient occupancy tax (TOT) from its current 12% rate to 14%.

FREE SALSA LESSONS
Downtown Santa Barbara’s free salsa dancing sessions are back and will be held on the second Sunday of July, August, and September from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in front of Cali-Forno Pizzeria at 905 State St. This event is open to the public and free of charge. Cali-Forno Pizzeria will offer food and drink specials throughout the evening.

The competition is on at the Santa Barbara Polo & Racquet Club, as it heads into High Goal season. The season kicked off on July 14 and general admission tickets are on sale now for all matches and can be purchased online at sbpolo.ticketsauce.com/. The High Goal schedule is updated weekly.
FINAL SCENES
QUARTET PERFORMANCE: The Music Academy of the West’s Arancia Quartet, made up of 2024 String Quartet Seminar fellows, will be playing at the Santa Barbara Museum of Art on July 20.
