Countless small businesses across the tri-county region have been helped by SCORE volunteers and 2024 is no exception.

For help with the basics of business formation to knowing the ins and outs of marketing, SCORE counselors offer myriad programs to help.

As the Business Times gears up to celebrate our Spirit of Small Business awards on Aug. 22, here’s a rundown of activities from the Ventura County chapter.

• The Ventura County Score chapter is offering a Sept. 4 session on how to deal with marketing particularly when it comes to social media. As SCORE wrote in a recent post, while many owners “understand the importance of marketing and promotion for their business, they are unsure how to effectively implement it on a daily basis.” To help straighten things out, SCORE Counselor Luisa Arzate is offering the seminar in English with simultaneous Spanish translation. A portion of the program will be devoted to using AI tools. You can register at score.org/ventura or call 805 204-6022.

• In Thousand Oaks, SCORE is offering a follow-up to a successful business workshop held earlier this year. Our first workshop that was held earlier this year was a resounding success and so we are presenting a second workshop on August 21 that will cover the topic of “The Business Model Canvas, a Faster Way to a Business Plan.” The workshop is offered at no cost to the business community. • Finally, the Ventura County SCORE chapter has spun out a Conejo Valley Mastermind Group which is being led by SCORE volunteers Sylvia Crew and Camille Marsh. The Mastermind Group plans to meet monthly and, in addition to networking, “will cover a range of topics such as marketing, e-Commerce, and accounting practices and tools,” according to a release, Check out score.org/ventura/local-workshops for information on the Conejo Valley Mastermind group.
