Central Coast unemployment rate largely unaffected in October
After finally seeing the unemployment rate dip in the month of September, the unemployment rate didn’t see much change in the 30 days after, according to the latest data from the California Employment Development Department.
Released Nov. 15, the unemployment rate of the tri-counties was at 4.36% for the month of October, up very slightly from an unemployment rate of 4.3% in September and down from an unemployment rate of 4.73% in August.
All three counties on the Central Coast saw their respective unemployment rates decrease with no single county having an unemployment rate above 5%.
Ventura County still had the highest unemployment rate in October at 4.9%, which was up from 4.8% in September.
Trailing them was Santa Barbara County, which saw its unemployment rate
at 4.2%, up slightly from a revised unemployment rate of 4.1% in September.
San Luis Obispo had the lowest unemployment rate along the Central Coast at 4%, which was unchanged.
In terms of job growth, only about 7,000 nonfarming jobs were added, which was a better trend than the previous two months.
Ventura County added 3,300 nonfarming jobs, including 1,300 in the government sector while Santa Barbara County added 1,900 jobs, including 800 in the government sector.
San Luis Obispo County added 1,800 jobs, including 1,800 in the government sector.
As for the state, California’s unemployment rate rose slightly to 5.4% in October.
In October, 5 of California’s 11 industry sectors gained jobs with Private Education & Health Services with 9,400 jobs added.
