It is one of the quirks of the Internet age that R-rated videos running on YouTube garner millions of hits while just a handful of dedicated science junkies logged on to the Web to catch the creation of the Nobel Prizes for the 21st century.
Put me down in the second category.
Which is why I crawled out of bed shortly before 6 a.m. May 28 to listen to the presentation of the first Kavli Prizes. The awards program was transmitted via a slightly scratchy audio feed from New York on the Kavli Foundation Web site.
