A Santa Barbara entrepreneur is hoping to make life in public places a little easier for people with hearing loss. Otojoy installs hearing loops, which take audio signals from sound systems and then transmit them electromagnetically to be picked up by a special feature found in most hearing aids.
Hersha Hospitality Trust said it purchased the 122-room Santa Barbara hotel as part of a strategy to get into one of the “highest-demand gateway markets in the United States.”
The 47,000-square-foot building at 25 E. Mason St. in Santa Barbara’s Funk Zone has been sold to an unnamed investor for an undisclosed amount. The property was listed for $21.5 million.
Nobel Laureate and founder of Grameen Bank Muhammad Yunus never intended to create a microlending juggernaut or invent the idea of a social business. “My work was not pre-planned,” he said. “It was an action born out of desperation.”
